First blog

hELLO LOVLIES!

I’m going to do a blog series on things that come to my mind naturally that i think might be relevant to share. there is going to be no set topics!

spring clean 🙂

i thought it would be good to start with this one as it’s something i have been trying to do the last couple of days since i got back from my travels.

so lets talk about hoarding, something that surely we are all guilty of – an accumulation of items and the inability to discard them, leading to significant distress and impairment in daily function.

when i was in bali completing my yoga training one of my favourite classes was yoga philosophy – we had the best teacher and it was such a safe place to ask personal questions!

& in yoga philosophy we have ethical and personal disciplines which are divided into Yamas and Niyamas.

yamas are our ethical guidelines and I thought it would be good to talk about how Aparigraha – Non-hoarding or non-possessiveness; letting go of greed is something that we could all practice in our lives around this time of the year – SPRING CLEAN!

you would be very surprised at how your personal space and environment impacts your emotional and mental state. hoarding doesn’t just fill your house or cupboards, it fills your mind. we have attachment to those things we are holding onto, which we will continue to carry and hold onto that energy.

i love sentimental items and this is something i asked my philosophy teacher about, she gave me a great perspective to think about.

when we look into the mirror, we are looking at everything and anyone that we have encountered in this life.

so i will leave that one with you as i certainly now have a different perspective.

having a tidy and purposeful environment mirrors Aparigraha, it makes it easier to live with intention and practice self-discipline.

in short – we want to encourage simplicity, reduce clutter and foster respect for resources that we are privileged and grateful to have.

so let me leave you with some food for thought:

Aparigraha & Spring Cleaning

  1. Letting Go of Excess
    • Aparigraha encourages us to release attachments to material things, just like spring cleaning involves sorting through clothes, books, or items you no longer use and deciding to donate, recycle, or discard them. why not donate to a family friend, charity shop or get onto vinted.
  2. Reducing Clutter, Clearing Space
    • By not hoarding, you are going to create physical and mental space. how good does it feel when you do a good clean on a saturday!
  3. Mindful Ownership
    • Aparigraha isn’t about having nothing, it’s about having only what you need. When you spring clean, you become mindful about what truly serves you vs what’s just taking up space. i done this during the week and honestly was horrified at the stuff i had that i didn’t even remember i had!
  4. Generosity & Gratitude
    • Letting go of things you don’t need allows you to give to others as i suggested above, and those others may actually need them! aligning with Aparigraha’s principle of reducing attachment and embracing generosity.

i hope you found this useful – reach out to me to discuss any of the above further as it’s very fascinating!
